Chörlein Architectural Model — A Tribute to Nürnberg’s Craftsmanship

Exhibit Display – In every hive, there’s a reverence for the past — for the structure, artistry, and precision that came before. When The Bees Knees Design was asked to recreate one of Nürnberg’s most iconic architectural features, the Chörlein, we approached the task with that same spirit of respect, curiosity, and craftsmanship.

The original Chörleins — ornate oriel windows that once lined the streets of old Nürnberg — were masterpieces of carpentry and civic pride. Many were lost to time and war, but the story of these architectural gems continues to inspire preservation and reconstruction efforts across the city. Our role was to recreate a museum model of the Chörlein at Füll 6.

Originally rebuilt thanks to the commitment of Karl Diehl and the Friends of the Old Town. Only fragments of the original structure survived. Our team had to reconstruct missing details from archival photographs, reinterpreting historic craftsmanship through the lens of modern fabrication.

Plaster - Lightweight

Made of plaster we designed the replica to be lightweight and easy transportable for exhibition use.

We designed the replica to be lightweight and transportable for exhibition use — balancing visual authenticity with practical handling. The piece was crafted in plaster, chosen for its tactile warmth and the way it captures light, inviting viewers to not just see, but feel the texture of history.

The curved facade and wave-shaped gable, hallmarks of early baroque design, required meticulous sculpting and finishing — a dance between art and precision, between past and present. Every build is part of a larger hive of creativity — a shared effort to preserve stories, evoke emotion, and connect people through form.

This project was more than a model; it was a bridge between centuries, buzzing with the craftsmanship and curiosity that define both the original makers and our own.
