Trade Show Booth Fabrication
Edmonton Marathon — Custom Trade Show Booth Built for Transport, Setup & Reuse
Custom Trade Show Booth Fabrication
TBKD trade show booth fabrication for the Edmonton Marathon, a branded environment that combined dimensional displays, custom cabinetry, large-format graphics and a motorized rotating 3D logo.
The booth was designed not only to attract attention on the show floor, but also around the practical realities of repeated event use. A tool-free slide-and-lock assembly system simplified setup and teardown, while custom-built transport crates protected the components between events.
project
features
Tool Free
No tools were required for setup. A simple slide-and-lock system allowed the booth to be assembled quickly and efficiently.
Revolving Sign
A custom motorized 3-dimensional logo sign added movement and helped the booth attract attention from across the event space.
Custom Crates
Custom packaging and crates were designed to protect the booth components during transport and make repeat use between events efficient.
A Trade Show Booth Inspired by the Energy of the Edmonton Marathon
The physical design drew inspiration from the movement, landscape and energy associated with the Edmonton Marathon. Custom tree-shaped cabinets and display elements created a recognizable visual language throughout the booth, while dimensional branding and large-format graphics transformed the structure into a complete branded environment.
At the centre of the experience was a large motorized 3D Edmonton Marathon sign. Rather than treating the logo as a flat graphic applied to a backdrop, TBKD transformed it into a physical feature with dimensional lettering, layered forms and continuous rotating movement.

What We Fabricate
The project required the visual concept and practical fabrication requirements to be developed together. TBKD fabricated two custom booth environments incorporating:
- Custom booth structures
- Tree-shaped cabinets and displays
- Dimensional branding and lettering
- Motorized rotating 3D signage
- Large-format printed graphics
- Custom display cabinet
- Tool-free connections
- Reusable modular components
- Custom transport crates and packaging

No Tools, No Stress, All Buzz.
Tool-Free Trade Show Booth Assembly
One of the key requirements of the project was simplifying installation. TBKD developed a custom slide-and-lock system that allowed the booth components to be assembled without tools. Instead of requiring a fabrication crew and extensive hardware every time the booth travelled to an event, the individual components could be positioned and connected through a straightforward assembly sequence.
Designing the booth around tool-free assembly from the beginning influenced how the structures were divided, how the components connected and how they were packaged for transportation. The result was a custom booth that could create a substantial branded presence while remaining practical for repeated setup and teardown.

A Reusable Sign Beyond the Trade Show Booth
After its trade show use, the dimensional Edmonton Marathon sign was also used in a retail environment as a standalone branded feature and photo opportunity. This extended the value of the fabrication beyond the original event. Instead of building a large dimensional element for a single application, the sign could continue to function independently wherever the Edmonton Marathon needed a recognizable physical brand presence.
Visitors could stand alongside the oversized logo for photographs, turning an element originally developed for a trade show booth into an experiential photo op.
Updating the Sign for Servus Credit Union Sponsorship
The dimensional sign was later updated to incorporate Servus Credit Union sponsor branding above the Edmonton Marathon logo. Rather than replacing the complete fabricated element when the branding requirements changed, the existing sign was adapted for its new application.
The updated version retained the recognizable dimensional Edmonton Marathon structure while introducing the sponsor identity prominently at the top of the sign. This ability to update branding can be an important consideration when developing reusable event fabrication.
Sponsor relationships, campaigns and event graphics can change long before the physical structure reaches the end of its useful life.
Custom Crates & Packaging
TBKD also fabricated custom crates and packaging for the booth components. Rather than treating transportation as an afterthought, the packaging system was developed around the shapes and dimensions of the finished fabrication.
Dedicated storage locations helped protect dimensional elements and finishes during transportation while making it easier to identify, pack and unpack components. For travelling trade show booths, custom crating can become part of the overall fabrication system—protecting the investment while simplifying repeated event use.
From Fabrication Shop to Trade Show Floor
Fabrication – The booth structures, tree-shaped displays, dimensional signage and custom components were produced as an integrated system.
Graphics & Dimensional Branding – Large-format graphics, and dimensional lettering transformed the booth into a cohesive event environment.
Motorized Sign Integration – The oversized 3D Edmonton Marathon logo was integrated with a motorized rotating system to create movement and visibility from multiple directions.
Insights / Fabrication Guide
Can You Build a Trade Show Booth That Looks Like a Real Building or Interior?
Yes. themed environments are part and parcel of TBKD’s trade show booth fabrication. A booth can function as a miniature branded environment rather than a conventional exhibition stand. For example, it can recreate architectural features, wall finishes, cabinetry, product environments and other physical details that demonstrate what a company actually produces.
Can You Design the Booth as Well as Fabricate It?
Yes. TBKD can assist with creative development and fabrication design as part of the process, turning an initial objective, sketch or brand direction into a buildable physical environment.
Can You Provide a Materials List for U.S. Customs?
When required for cross-border shipping, we can document the materials used in the trade show booth fabrication to support the client’s shipping and customs documentation. Requirements can vary, so customs and carrier requirements should be confirmed for the specific shipment.
Can a Custom Booth Be Designed for Tool-Free Assembly?
Yes, if implemented early in the concept stage of the trade show booth fabrication. Depending on the design, connections and modular components can be developed to reduce or eliminate the need for tools during setup. Designing for assembly from the beginning is considerably more effective than trying to simplify a complicated structure after fabrication.
Can a Booth Be Lightweight Enough for Two People to Set Up?
Potentially, yes—and this is exactly the kind of requirement we want to know in the concept stages of the trade show booth fabrication. Weight targets, component dimensions, connection methods and the number of people available for installation can influence how the booth is divided into sections and which materials and construction methods are appropriate.
